A few weeks ago we recorded a song composed by Ismael Inarejos, who stayed with us for a few days in London. The track is called “Song for Hannah” and features Xavi Campoy playing lead guitar and Ismael Inarejos singing and playing the rhythm guitar. This recording has been made with the usual MOTU 828 mkII I carry everywhere I go (almost) and an Audio Technica AT202.

This is just a rough mix.

Ismael Inarejos is the singer and frontman of MEL, band based in Catalonia. MEL´s growing success and undeniable talent have taken them to play in Buenafuente tv show a couple of times, and in Palau de la Musica for Sant Jordi´s day lately, you can contact them here.

Parking Keeps Going On

It’s an absolute pleasure to announce that “Parking” has won an award at the Colorado Springs Indie Scene Festival as Best Short Film. “Parking” already got the Best Short Film award in FECINEMA (Manresa, Spain), FILMLABFESTIVAL (Best actor for Pablo Turegano) and has been a finalist out of 600 short films from all over the world at The Manhattan Short Festival (Mr. Jorge Molina is currently working in a new short film that hopefully will get to shoot sometime during the Summer: A good story involving Judo and the discovery of the first love).

Apart from this, last weeks we’ve been recording some stuff with our guests and flatmates, and we had the chance to record a song with GARE’s and MEL’s frontman Ismael Inarejos together with Xavi. We’ll upload a bit of that soon.

It is January already, AC didn´t get to fly back home for the Christmas events and was stuck in Gatwick airport for the whole night. The struggle for getting the money back begins. There are 2 polish guys painting the bathroom ceiling, and we are looking for a room to rent in Bethnal Green or Whitechapel. Then we can take our equipment from Madrid and start recording again. There´s a pirate tale, a colombian rapper and lots of blues in sight. Also mixing Marco´s stuff.

Keep in touch.

It´s been a couple of weird months for Swampland Studios, but here are a few news:

Jorge Molina´s “Parking” has been selected as one of the 10 finalists of the Manhattan Film Festival, out of 428 short films. We are SO proud of this work we are unable to express it with words and we can´t even imagine what´s going to happen if we win, probably we won´t, because the competition is quite hard, but we are already celebrating being there in the ten selected ones. Check the other finalist short films here.

plasteek´s “Milk Noir” is out NOW!, yes, your favourite spanish post punk band is releasing a limited edition of 300 white 7 inch vinyls, contact Warsaw Was Raw Records through his manager or plasteek themselves for getting yours, they ship international orders.

We´ve been recording 3 new songs for Marco Fernández -whose debut album is a MUST that you can listen for free in his new website – for his latest project, and hopefully you´ll have the chance to taste some excerpts soon, we recorded a bluesy cover of “The Boys from County Hell” too, but just for killing time.

A.C.SA., head and only member of Swampland Studios so far, has moved to the U.K., so wish luck to him, because they love bureaucracy in that country.

Two of our favourite Australian musicians are releasing new material this October, and we´re are expectant and excited about it; they´re Rowland S. Howard and Hugo Race;

Mr. Howard is releasing his first full length album in 10 years, it´s name is “Pop Crimes”, 8 tracks by the king of the rusty electrified guitars and ripped off riffs, give it a go here.

Mr. Race is releasing “Between Hemispheres”, an instrumental album (like he did in the past with Transfargo) that sounds, in his own words, like “raw acoustic instruments are pitted against sculpted analogue sounds in a vast organic space both dramatic and meditative, brutal yet beautiful. Here the delta blues remains – but distantly, like background radiation.….” give it a look here. Mr. Race, along with the True Spirit, will be on tour this Autumn//Winter near you, and you can´t miss it!.

That´s it by now, Audrey is on holidays and we´re all missing her so much.

Cheers!.

Lo-Fi things.

There was a time in which everything had the be recorded through the built-in microphone of a G4. I still use it eventually, when an idea crosses your mind there´s no time to waste setting up, plus whatever sounds good through it is worth to work on, even if at the end you nothing with it.

This track had loads of different names and lyrics.

Recording, editing, sound designing & pre-mixing in Swampland Studios for Jorge Molina Cuquerella´s PRKNG, starring Pablo Turégano. There was some music I composed for the film, but unfortunately there wasn´t enough time to finish the score, so some bits from Petra Flurr´s “Visage” (Warsaw was raw records, 2008) were used instead of them.

Working with Jorge Molina Cuquerella is always something special, we met more than 10 years ago and we´ve been sharing thoughts about films, theater plays, sound and music since the very first moment we met, so he was good friend of mine before even thinking about working together.

I feel some kind of telepathy with him sometimes, and he always lets me (or “us”, the more or less regular people in the crew) know about his projects from the first lines he writes, what helps a lot in the production process, so we can row in the same direction months before shooting anything, there are some remarkably funny brainstorming moments I can´t tell you right now…

The filming of this one was an absolute nightmare, three nights inside of a parking lot, breathing the worst air possible, sleepless (working in the day time in another project for Warsaw Was Raw records), awful acoustics with infinite reverb, poor equipment, moving light systems and a lot of other people in the set, so it was hard to keep that enviroment quiet, I can tell you.

The editing process was quite hard also, too many problems with computers, formats (we had to record all the sound straight to the camera, “the red one”) and lots of things to overdub, but considering the situation I´m more or less satisfied about the result, even if I was looking for some kind of “Eraserhead” ambience and my main point and motivation was making just the music.

I really missed Marcel in this one…I want to thank the sound assistant Pablo Thonon his good disposition and patience.

Probably this won´t be the final version:

Good evening;

Swampland studios is the mask used by A.C.S-A. for his sound projects, some others in collaboration. This may include music, articles, sound design for short films, or any other kind of sound-related work he´s doing.

A.C.S-A is extremely interested in experimental music, spoken words, audio technology, media production, recording, sampling, remixing and sculpting sound and has been working as independent live sound technician, backliner and sound editor for four years.

In some cases, Swampland Studios won´t be the legal owner of the media shown here (because all of this is copyrighted by different producing companies with different licenses in one way or another), but will only publish information that belongs to Swampland Studios or with the approbation of the legal owner/s of the content of this website depending on each case.
